Imo PDP women urge youths to shun electoral violence during council polls

Factual Pursuit of Truth for Progress

The Women’s wing of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo has advised youths in the state to shun violence and political acrimony during the December local government polls.
The PDP women leader, Mrs Maria Mbakwe, gave the advice on Monday in Owerri, while addressing newsmen during a victory rally organised by the group to celebrate Gov. Emeka Ihedioha’s victory at the tribunal.
Mbakwe said that the upcoming council polls would provide an opportunity for youths in the state to demonstrate maturity through meaningful participation.
She decried the spate of election violence among the nation’s youths and urged Imo youths not to allow themselves to be used by power hungry politicians to disrupt the process.
She said that the youths remained the direct beneficiaries of a credible electoral process, adding that a credible election was an investment in the future of the youths.
”We must not sacrifice the future of our youths on the altar of electoral violence and malpractice.
“I therefore urge our youths not to allow anyone to use them to disrupt the process.
”The youths are the most vulnerable in this picture yet they are the most beneficiaries because a credible electoral process is an investment in their future since they stand to benefit from it in the long run,’’ Mbakwe said.
