11 killed in Kinshasa concert stampede

Eleven people, including two police officers, were killed in a stampede that occurred Saturday night during a concert in Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), the interior minister said on Sunday.

Police have recorded “11 deaths including 10 as a result of suffocation and the crush, and 7 hospitalizations,” said Minister Daniel Aselo Okito in a statement.

With a capacity of 80,000 seats, the stadium was fully packed, according to eyewitnesses.
