436 new COVID-19 cases take Nigeria’s total to 20,244 after 113,575 tests, 12,847 under active care and 6,879 cured, with Lagos, FCT, Kano, Oyo and Rivers as regional epicenters

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has announced 436 new cases of coronavirus, bringing the total number of confirmed infections in the country to 20,244.

The NCDC made this announcement on its official twitter handle on Sunday.

The centre also said that 12 more patients died of coronavirus-related complications in the country.

A breakdown of data on the NCDC’s statistics revealed that Nigeria currently has 12,847 active COVID-19 cases.

It said, “On the 21st of June 2020, 436 new confirmed cases and 12 deaths were recorded in Nigeria.

“No new state has reported a case in the last 24 hours.

“Till date, 20244 cases have been confirmed, 6879 cases have been discharged and 518 deaths have been recorded in 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

“The 436 new cases are reported from 19 states- Lagos (169), Oyo (52), Plateau (31), Imo (29), Kaduna (28), Ogun (23), FCT (18), Enugu (18), Bauchi (17), Bayelsa (14), Rivers (8), Osun (6), Kano (6), Edo(5), Benue (5), Adamawa (3), Borno (2), Abia (1), Ekiti (1).”

Meanwhile, Lagos State government on Sunday discharged a total of 45 more COVID-19 patients, comprising 18 females and 27 males from its isolation facilities across the state to reunite with the society.

The total number of patients so far discharged in the state having been treated for the virus now stands at 1,328.

The state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the Incident Commander made this disclosure in a release made available by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Mr Gboyega Akosile.

According to Sanwo-Olu, the patients were 20 from Gbagada, nine from Onikan, two from Mainland Infectious Disease Hospital (MIDH), Yaba, one from Agidingbi, one from Lekki and 12 from LUTH isolation centres, saying that they were all discharged having fully recovered and tested negative for COVID-19.

The governor enjoined Lagosians to continue to adhere strictly to rules, including physical distancing and hand hygiene principles to endure that the state was free from COVID-19, affirming that the pandemic was real.

“Good people of Lagos, 45 more #COVID19Lagos patients; 18 females and 27 males have been discharged from our Isolation facilities today to reunite with the society.

“The patients; 20 from Gbagada, 9 from Onikan, 2 from Mainland Infectious Disease Hospita, Yaba, 1 from Agidingbi, 1 from Lekki and 12 from LUTH Isolation Centres were discharged today having fully recovered and testing negative to COVID-19.

“This brings to 1,328, the number of #COVID19 confirmed cases that have been successfully managed and discharged in Lagos.
