The Ondo State House of Assembly on Monday confirmed the letter written to it by the state Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu for an extension of his medical vacation.

The governor who is ill and has been receiving treatment in the hospital had earlier informed the Assembly of his medical leave on June 5, 2023, and was supposed to resume on July 6, 2023, but could not resume.

The speaker of the Assembly, Olamide Oladiji, in a statement, said the governor could not resume as he was following the instructions of his doctor to take adequate rest after recuperating.

The speaker who received the letter on behalf of other lawmakers, said the governor’s action was in line with section 190 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria ( as amended).

The statement read, “His (Akeredolu’s) deputy, Hon . Lucky Aiyedatiwa would continue to act as governor until there is a written declaration to the contrary.”

The speaker, who appreciated God for the speedy recovery of the governor, expressed optimism that he would soon resume his duty.
