Nigeria’s COVID-19 war chest has grown by N1billion (one billion Naira) with Africa’s richest woman Mrs Folorunso Alakija and her husband, Modupe, joining the list of billionaire donors.

Announcing the donation through their company Famfa Oil, the Alakijas said the donation is in aid of Nigeria’s fight against the dreaded Coronavirus which has infected over 134 persons in the country.

In a statement made via Twitter the billionaire couple said the money would be shared between the National Centre for Disease Control (N250m), Lagos State Government (N250m), African Centre of Excellence for Genomics of Infectious Diseases (N50m), medical workers on the frontline in Lagos State (N100m), medical workers on the frontline in Abuja (N100m), supply of medical equipment to relevant organisations (N245m) and Dr Ameyo Stella Adadevor (DRASA) Health Trust (N5m).

Like the Alakijas, many other Nigerian billionaires and millionaires including Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote, telecoms magnate Mike Adenuga, oil tycoon Otedola and politicians Atiku Abubakar and Bola Tinubu have equally made donations in support of government effort to combat the virus.
