American Dj and media personality, DJ Khaled, to host MTV Africa Music Awards Kampala 2021

American Grammy Award-winning global hip-hop star and record producer, DJ Khaled is set to host the MTV Africa Music Awards Kampala 2021 in its 14th year.

The hip-hop star born Khaled Mohamed Khaled on November 26, 1975 in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States is a talented media personality, music producer, dj and father of two boys.

MTV will air the event globally in 180 countries for the first time.

Hip-hop star will host the virtual awards ceremony from his home in Miami, alongside African Co-emcees.

The event will hold in Kampala, the capital and largest city of Uganda starting from February 20, 2021 on MTV channels; MTV Base and MTV Africa.

The Senior Vice President and general manager of ViacomCBS Networks Africa, Monde Twala said:

“With Grammy Award-winning powerhouse, DJ Khaled, at the helm, we’re certain this will be an incredible, must-see global event.

“We are thrilled to have DJ Khaled as our international host for MAMA Kampala 2021. With his global success achievement and over 22 million followers on social media, he will inspire youth across the continent and attract an even bigger international audience to the virtual event.

“We can’t wait to showcase the latest African musical stars and culture to the MAMA themed MTV World Stage.”

The American DJ had responded on Instagram on January 22, 2021 with caption, “Join me as your HOST for the MTV Africa Music Awards Kampala 2021, on 20 Feb. We’ll be bringing Africa to the world with the biggest stars from Africa and the globe.

“Coming at you from the pearl of Africa, Uganda. @visituganda @mtv @mtvbaseafrica #mtvmama #visituganda.”

He said, “I can’t wait to celebrate the incredible music that comes out of Africa, which has inspired me throughout my career.”

Artist of the year nominees are Burna Boy, Calemo, Diamond Platnumz, Master KG, Davido, Tiwa Savage, and Wizkid.

For the Best International act, the host DJ Khaled competes with Da Baby, Megan Thee Stallion, Drake, Beyonce and the Weeknd.

Hip-hop stars Wyclef Jean and Eve, actors Marlon Wayans and Anthony Anderson are past hosts of the events.

The MTV Africa Music Awards have recognised talented musicians and personalities across Africa, that includes; Wizkid, 2face Idibia, AKA, D’banj, Davido, Clarence Peters, Diamond Platnumz, Big Nuz, Cassper Nyovest, Anselmo Ralph, Liquideep, Lupita Nyong’o, Mafikizolo, P-Square, Sarkodie, Uhuru, Yemi Alade, Tiwa Savage e.t.c.

Trevor Noah won an Emmy three years ago for Daily Show with Trevor Noah. He’s set to host the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards on March 14, 2021.

The MTV Award is set to air on February 20, 2021 at 8pm. CAT (Central Africa Time)/ 6pm. GMT Greenwich Mean Time)/ 1pm ET.

DJ Khaled has made hit records featuring great artists like JAY-Z, Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, Drake, Chris Brown, Ludacris, Big Sean, Rick Ross, John Legend among others.
