Nigerian Air Force (NAF) on Friday observed prayers to commence the commemoration of this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

Delivering a sermon at the NAF Tactical Air Command Base central mosque in Makurdi, Chief Imam, Group Captain, Haruna Idris, encouraged members of the military not to relent in contributing their quota to the development of Nigeria.

The clergy said service to the nation is a noble cause as he noted that the supreme sacrifices made by the fallen heroes on whose memory the event is being commemorated every year was never a loss to regret because they did the country proud.

“The sermon is in remembrance of our fallen heroes and sacrifice of our veterans. Their dedication to provision of duties for our nation was indeed a noble cause which cannot be counted as loss but pride for citizens to die in the cause of defending their people and the nation,” he said.

Idris therefore appealed to civil society to recognise the contribution on of the Nigerian armed forces by extending goodwills to the families left behind by the fallen heroes in order to make their children and wives not feel orphaned or widowed.

He also charged those causing trouble in the society to repent, surrender their arms and embrace Allah for peace to reign in the society.
