Armed men on Monday, reportedly attacked Nnewi Police Area Command, Anambra State, carting away some weapons.
There was heavy gunfire between the armed criminals and Police officers, causing pandemonium amongst residents of the industrial city.
According to reports, the gunmen, who stormed the area around noon with seven vehicles, engaged the Police in a gun duel that lasted for one hour.
The gunmen reportedly overpowered the police and carted away weapons.
However, no casualty was recorded in the incident.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed the incident, said the attack was repelled by the police operatives.
The PPRO said operatives successfully repelled the attackers who came in vehicles in the afternoon.
According to him, the police and other security agencies in the area are currently at the area to ensure that the situation is under control.
He failed to mention if weapons were carted away or not.
