Banditry: Gov. Matawalle suspends Emir of Zurmi

Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle, has suspended of the Emir of Zurmi, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar Muhammad, with immediate effect.

The Emir of Zurmi was suspended for his alleged involvement in escalating banditry in the emirate and state at large.

Matawalle, in a press statement signed by the acting Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Kabiru Balarebe, also constituted a high-powered committee to investigate allegations made against the suspended emir.

The committee is headed by the immediate past Deputy Governor, Malang Ibrahim Wakkala, while Alhaji Musa Liman Shinkafi, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Security and Home Affairs, was appointed as the Secretary to the committee.

Other members of the committee are former deputy Governor, Mukhtar Alhaji Ahmad Anka, Hon. Faruku Miss Dosara, DIG Mamman Tsafe (rtd), Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Affairs.

Others are Hon. Yusuf Abubakar Zugu, Special Adviser on Chieftaincy Affairs, representative of Zamfara state police Command, representative of DSS and the representative of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC)

According to the statement, the Committee is given three weeks within which to complete its assignment and submit its report.

Banditry has been on the rise in Zamfara despite the readiness of the state governor to grant bandits amnesty.
