Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, has called on security agents to sit up in their fight against banditry and insecurity in the country.

Lawan stated this when he led a delegation to a condolence visit to the family of Senator Bala Na’ Allah at his residence in Kaduna on Wednesday.

While noting that Kaduna State has become the gravity center of banditry in Northwest Nigeria, Lawan stressed that security agents must live up to expectations in the protection of lives and prosperity of the citizenry.

Addressing the family of the deceased, he regretted that banditry had affected parts of the country.

“I appeal to our security agencies to come up with better strategies in dealing and confronting banditry that has now become almost a norma in this State and especially in the Northwest. We cannot get tired of insisting we get results from our security agencies”.

“We will not also get tired in providing resources and platforms for our security agencies necessary for our security agencies to do better”, he stressed.

The Senate President disclosed that before the National Assembly went on recess in July this year, it approved over N800 billion to security agencies to be better armed.

“With the recent acquisition of the Tukanos by our Airforce and other platforms, we believe that the government is doing everything possible to enhance the capacity and capabilities of our armed forces to fight the numerous security challenges that we face especially banditry here in the Northwest”.

“Our security agents must sit up, we appreciate what they are doing but we expect better outcomes now that more resources have been given to them”, he emphasised.

Lawan, therefore, urged Nigerians to support security agencies either by volunteering necessary information that would aid them in the discharge of their duties.

The Senate President described late Abdulkarim as possessing similar attributes as his father, adding that, he was a man of peace, conviction, focused, patriotic and a productive Nigerian.

“This is one death too many but when Allah wishes, nobody can stop His will and none of us could have done anything to stop this. Our security agents must follow the trail and do everything possible to get the killers of our son”.
