Bank robbery foiled in Ondo

Some gunmen, on Thursday afternoon, attacked a bullion van in Ondo town, Ondo West L/G area of Ondo State, injured three police officers escorting the vehicle.

The gunmen, it was gathered, tried unsuccessfully to intercept the bullion van at Ita-nla along Akure garage area, in Ondo town.

Information retrieved from a woman who left her car at Guaranty Trust Bank, also known as GT Bank, was that she ran for her safety after she saw the robbers approaching.

The van was reportedly transporting money from GT Bank to Akure, the Ondo State capital when the driver noticed that the robbers were pursuing the van and quickly turned back to Ondo.

The robbers, in a bid to intercept the van and cart away the money, first fired at the escort van conveying the police officers.

Three police officers were injured in the process while others were unscathed.

Speaking with the PPRO Ondo state, Teelee Ikoro, it was confirmed that the incident wasn’t successful.

According to him, the robbers trailed the van from an unknown state.

He said the robbers were not able to loot the van as the driver managed to escape with the van.

The police chief said the three injured policemen are receiving treatment, adding that the police have launched a manhunt for the fleeing robbers.

KAFTAN TV crew confirmed that the victims are now receiving treatment at the Trauma and Surgical Center in Ondo.
