Bayelsa By-Elections: Six policemen drown in boat accident in Ijaw river

The Nigeria Police Force have on Sunday confirmed the death of six policemen after a boat accident in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

The policemen were heading to Southern Ijaw Local Government Area for the by-elections before the sad incident.

According to the Bayelsa State Police Command, Spokesperson, Asinim Butswat, the incident occurred on Friday, December 4, the day before the Senatorial By-election holding in two senatorial zones of the state.

While 11 Police personnel were on board when the boat capsized, six officers drowned. Their bodies have been recovered.

By-elections were conducted in 11 states across the country. Specifically, it held in six senatorial districts and nine state constituencies.

Lagos and Cross River states had both senatorial and state assembly elections conducted conducted, while either senatorial or assembly elections held in the other nine states.

The by-elections held on Saturday, December 6 as the INEC postponed the elections earlier scheduled for October 31 due to the #EndSARS protests and other challenges.
