Mr Timi Alaibe, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship aspirant in the forthcoming election in Bayelsa, has promised to ensure infrastructure development and creation of wealth in the sea if elected.

Alaibe, a former Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), told newsmen in Yenagoa on Thursday that his vision was to pursue the “Blue Economy’’ (preservation and use of marine environment) in Bayelsa.

He explained that investing on critical infrastructure was necessary for economic growth.

The aspirant noted that his intention for the post of governor was to make his people feel what is good.

“I have both private and public sectors’ experiences and I want to put that in the state as we discuss development and future of the state.

“I am interested in the future; to sustain and protect it for our children to come.

“I intend to use government platform for building roads, schools, investing on health and use government for maintenance of peace and security,” Alaibe said.

The aspirant said he would ensure that private sector capital is used to invest on critical infrastructure and the environment, tourism, among others.

“You know that since 1996 when Bayelsa was created, we have not been able to access the ocean through any road infrastructure.

“Bayelsa has natural deep sea ports in Brass and Agge and accessing the sea will open up the wealth in the ocean for our people,’’ Alaibe said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Bayelsa Governorship election will hold on Nov. 16.
