Brazen kidnap of Edo State Head of Service, Anthony Okungbowa, sends jitters in Government House

Against the backdrop of frequent cases of kidnapping and crime rates across Nigeria, the Edo State Head of Service, Anthony Okungbowa, has been kidnapped in Benin-city.

This development was confirmed by Security sources. It was further revealed that Okungbowa was kidnapped at gunpoint on Saturday evening and taken to an unknown destination.

However, the perpetrators of the heinous crime are yet to reach members of victim’s family or Governor Godwin Obaseki, on any demand for ransom.

Meanwhile, the Edo Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Superintendent Chidi Nwabuzor, could not be reached for comment as at the time of filing this report.

KaftanPost correspondent reliably gathered from verified sources within Edo state that the escalating insecurity in the country must have necessitated this incidence of kidnap among other uncertain factors.

The Edo State government was however yet to make a public statement on the issue as at press time. Insiders within the Edo state government however expressed confidence that Governor Obaseki will address the Press in a short while.

Meanwhile, the atmosphere within the state government House in Benin city, the state capital was generally that of palpable fear and apprehension.

“No one knows who is next in the cycle of this unfortunate incessant kidnapping,” an anonymous commentator opined on the phone while answering questions concerning the issue.
