A former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has emerged as the presidential flagbearer of the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Tinubu clinched the party’s ticket today after garnering the most votes in its primaries held at the Eagles Square Abuja.

The ex-governor racked up 1, 271 ballots, over 50 per cent of the total votes.

Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, came in a distant second with 316.

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo followed with 235 while Senate President, Ahmad Lawan had 152.

Meanwhile, Governor Yahaya Bello and his Cross River State counterpart, Ben Ayade picked up 38 and 37 votes respectively.

However, there were zero votes for four aspirants including former Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha and Pastor Tunde Bakare.

Thirteen ballots were declared invalid.

Tinubu will now battle the People’s Democratic Party’s candidate, Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party’s Peter Obi – both perceived as the strongest opposition to the ruling party at next year’s polls.
