With the global concern over the coronavirus on the rise, the British High Commission in Nigeria has announced a partial lockdown in line with precautionary measures to check the spread.

Catriona Laing, Britain’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, made this known in a public statement.

Mrs Laing revealed that this has become necessary owing to the recent airport closures and knowing it is almost impossible to get people out in case of emergency.

The British diplomat disclosed that it would reduce the number of staff and dependents while also exploring possible options to send them back home as there are no available commercial means.

Laing, however, assured that the Mission will remain open for essential work, “including providing 24/7 consular assistance and support to British nationals in Nigeria”.
