Buhari meets Chad’s interim president Mahamat Deby

President Muhammadu Buhari, on Friday, met with the President of Chad’s Transitional Military Council, General Mahamat Idriss Deby, behind closed doors.

It was gathered that Derby is on a day official visit to Nigeria after visiting the Republic of Niger on May 11.

Deby took over the mantle of leadership in Chad after the death of his father on April 19, 2021.

According to NAN, his visit to Nigeria is aimed at formally introducing himself to Buhari, who is considered to be one of the most influential leaders in the West African sub-region and Africa at large.

Other matters expected to be discussed at the meeting are the menace of terrorism and arms proliferation threatening the peace and security of the sub-region.

Recall that President Buhari had expressed sadness over the sudden and tragic death of Deby.

The president lamented that “the late Deby had played a very active role in our regional joint collaboration in the military campaign against the Boko Haram terrorists.”

Buhari and the late Deby had both met in March before his demise barely a month after.
