Buhari prays for safety of dozens trapped in collapsed Ikoyi building

President Muhammadu Buhari has prayed for the safety and rescue of dozens trapped in the collapsed Ikoyi building.

The President also condoled with the families of the victims involved in the building collapse at Ikoyi, Lagos State.

The President’s words were made known in a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina.

About 10 persons were feared dead on Monday when a 21-storey building collapsed on Gerard Road in the Ikoyi area of Lagos State.

In the statement titled, ‘President Buhari condoles with families of victims of building collapse, urges authorities to step up rescue efforts’, the President urged authorities to beef up rescue operations as some are still trapped under the rubble.

The statement read, “President Muhammadu Buhari commiserates with families who have lost loved ones in the 22 storey building collapse in Lagos, while some are still trapped.

“President Buhari shares the sad moment with people and Government of Lagos State, urging authorities to step up efforts in rescue operations, while emergency institutions, including hospitals, should provide all the necessary support to safeguard lives of the rescued.

“The President prays for God’s intervention in the ongoing rescue operations.”

Also, the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotosho, in a statement, has said rescue agencies were on the ground to save those under the rubble.

He added that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had ordered an investigation into the incident, adding that a report of the probe would be made public.

The state Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, in a statement on Monday, also said investigations had commenced to unravel the cause of the collapse.
