Nigeria State Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello, has backed the call for the restructuring of the country by North central governors without compromising the unity of the nation.

The governor stated this on Wednesday at the Senate zonal public hearing on constitution review in Minna.

He said: “Restructuring is a perception that has been in national discourse, we the Governors of North Central have talked about it and we are not afraid of restructuring. However, the unity of the nation is pivotal and cannot be compromised.

“Time has come for us to take critical look at the 1999 constitution towards providing efficient system of government.”

According to him, the exclusive and concurrent list also needed to be reviewed alongside issues of local government autonomy.

Earlier in his remarks, Chairman Senate sub-committee, North Central II on constitution review, Senator Abdullahi Sabi, said the Senate did not intend to write a new constitution.

He said lots of memos had been recovered by the committee, promising that the Senate would ensure that necessary amendments are made on the constitution according to the desires and recommendations of the people.
