The death of Olubunmi Olugbileeti, a Nigerian based in Brooklyn, New York, has sparked controversy.

Bunmi, 47, passed away last week in her home in the United States after allegedly succumbing to the coronavirus.

In a viral video, the deceased, reported to be a nurse, was wrapped and taken away by medical personnel in the presence of family, friends and loved ones who sang and wept.

However in a shocking twist, a neighbour and business associate has denied that the 47-year-old died of COVID-19.

According to one Mr Jephter Ugochukwu Njoku, Bunmi died of “natural causes even though she had some underlying health conditions”.

He added that the deceased wasn’t a medical personnel as being portrayed, rather a computer technician.

Read his full statement below:

This is to set the records straight with regards to the wrong information that has been circulating in the social media, with regards to the untimely death of a beautiful and lovely person.

Sis. Bunmi was my business associate and a devout Christian who lived in my neighborhood. She did not die of Covid-19 as currently being rumored. She was not a nurse either. I have known Bunmi since 2015 as a skillful and talented computer technician & Electronics online dealer.
She was a humble, honest and kind hearted person who would not hesitate to offer a helping hand in any given situation.
She was an open-minded and peace loving gentle lady, who would dialogue with anybody when she felt offended.

She died of natural causes….even though she had some underlying health conditions. She has no children and her family, including her husband lives in Nigeria .

As a matter of fact and for clarification purposes regarding the misinformation being circulated on various social media outlets,

I, Mr Jephter Ugochukwu Njoku actually had my last computer repair transaction with her a few days before her sudden death. Indeed, prior to that, she was very active, independent and was not that sick or bed-ridden, or abandoned by her caring close friends; on the contrary, I personally spoke with her on the phone on Saturday evening preceeding her untimely death -on Sunday morning of May 3rd 2020, when she was found dead on the floor in her living room by EMS Team.

I did encouraged her to seek further emergency medical attention if her condition did not improve. But she told me that “God was in total control of her life and health”

Regrettably, she had no children and her immediate family members live in Nigeria.

At the moment, we are appealing to the general public, all kind-hearted and generous people (Nigerians) to assist us in spreading this message, in efforts to debunking all the false narratives that have been circulating in the social media. She deserves the respect and to be allowed to pass on in peace, one devoid of all the lies currently circulating in the social media.

We are currently making necessary arrangements to give her a befitting christian burial. under the prevailing corona virus pandemic crisis.

A gofundme website has been set up, to help in covering the burial cost.

Your generous support at this challenging moment will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance. May God bless you all

“Sis Bunmi…we love you: We Miss you but God loves more”
