A Nigerian medical doctor helping to fight the Coronavirus in the United Kingdom has lost his life after contracting the virus in the line of duty.

On a day that Britain lost 393 persons to COVID -19 within 24 hours, Dr Alfa Saadu joined the list of 1808 others that had been killed in the UK by the pandemic now ravaging the world.

His death has been described as a “very sad day”, not only for UK and Nigerian doctors, “but also for doctors worldwide who sometimes are thrown into the deep end without adequate resources.”

Dr Saadu has been described by colleagues as one of “the brightest, kindest and most respected stalwart of Nigerian doctors in the UK.”

It would be recalled that no fewer than 51 doctors at the frontline of the fight against the virus in Italy, lost their lives recently having contracted the disease in the line of duty.
