COVID-19: 268 Nigerians arrive Abuja from China

Two-hundred and sixty-eight Nigerians evacuated from China have arrived the country.

The flight touched down at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Saturday afternoon.

This was confirmed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, in a tweet, adding that all the evacuees will go through the customary 14 days quarantine.

The Minister also confirmed that Air Peace, which evacuated over 300 Chinese nationals to their country, brought the Nigerians back home.

“EVACUATION UPDATE: 268 Stranded Nigerians in China safely arrived the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, 30th May 2020.All of them will go on the 14 days quarantine,” he said.

“The Nigerian evacuees from #China who endured a difficult time in #China are now settled in their hotels after an evacuation coordinated by the @NigeriaMFA and the Nigerian carrier @flyairpeace.”

Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa also confirmed the development.

Dabiri-Erewa, in an update on Twitter, said the returnees would proceed on a compulsory 14-day quarantine, as stipulated by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

“268 stranded Nigerians arrive in Abuja airport about 2.30pm today, from China.

“They will be proceeding for the mandatory 14-day quarantine,” she wrote.
