COVID 19: SON carries out Quality Assurance Inspections of face mask factory in Abia, Rivers

As part of its technical responsibility of boosting local production of essential materials needed to fight the COVID-19 scourge, the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has conducted quality assurance inspection of mass production of face masks in Abia and Rivers states.

The Inspection which was carried out by Abia State office of SON visited Logistics De Luke Limited in Aba, Abia State, where face masks were currently being mass-produced.

The SON inspection team which was led by the Abia State Office Coordinator, Oluyomi Lad-Alabi, accompanied by Ben Elesho, Atowa Chidiebere, and Okechukwu Okaugo, and received by the Director-General, Abia State Quality Management Agency, Sam Hart, on behalf of the state government while describing the visit as timely.

According to Sam Hart, an order has been received by the company through the General Theophilus Danjuma Foundation to produce and supply 200,000 units of the barrier masks to Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps in northeastern Nigeria.

He thanked the SON on behalf of the Abia State government for having played major roles in ensuring quality assurance support to micro, small and medium scale enterprises in the state.

In his remarks, the General Manager of the Company, Chijioke Nwagwugwu said the company is ensuring that enough quantity is being produced for the state government towards containing the spread of the deadly virus.

While responding, Lad-Alabi applauded the company and the Abia State government in fight against the pandemic especially community transmission.

He added that the SON inspection aimed at consolidating the efforts of the state government through value addition while ensuring that the masks are produced to the requirements of the AFNOR SPEC S76-001: 2020.

According to Google sources, The Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) is the sole statutory body that is vested with the responsibility of standardizing and regulating the quality of all products in Nigeria. SON was established by Act No. 56 of 1971. SON is a full member of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
