Davido, Funke Akindele, others make Forbes Africa list

FORBES AFRICA has unveiled their list for 100 Innovations, inventions and icons from Africa for year 2021, with entertainers like Davido, Funke Akindele, Wizkid gracing the list.

Africa is a diverse continent with creativity, inventions and art. It has produced outstanding entertainers making up proud globally and locally, deflating misconceptions about the continent.

FORBES AFRICA released their list on April 1, 2021, revealing many promising Nigeria entertainers, actors and artists.

David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, made the list of icons, he is also the first on the list.

Davido, who also graced the FORBES AFRICA 30 under 30 list in 2018, has won many reputable awards including the MTV and BET, even local awards like Headies.

Winning on every sides with awards and endorsements, it’s only right to include the talented afrobeat singer on the list.

Ace actress, Omotola J Ekeinde, who recently celebrated her 25th wedding anniversary also graced the list coming up at number 8 on the icon list.

The multi-award-winning actress has appeared in several movies.

Omotola also made the list of 100 most influential people in the world in 2013, alongside Beyonce and Michelle Obama.

Well known afrobeat singer and arguably one of the best, biggest stars made out of Africa is Ayo Balogun, also known as Wizkid.

Vogue described the artist as “an image-maker who speaks to millennials”.

Wizkid is definitely among notable icons putting the nation’s name in the global stage.

Recently, the artist won his first Grammy Award with Beyonce on their song, ‘Brown Skin Girl’ and also numerous awards and endorsements.

Damini Ogulu, also known as Burna Boy, made the list, winning his first solo Grammy Award for his album, ‘Twice As Tall’ on March 14.

Burna Boy is remarkably one of the best in Nigeria and globally presently.

Talented actress and movie producer, Funke Akindele Bello, gracefully made the list.
The actress rose to fame after her role in popular sitcom ‘I need to Know’ and has since been breaking boundaries when it comes to film making and success. Her recent movie and sequel to her Omo Ghetto movie, ‘Omo Ghetto Saga’ broke the record to be the highest grossing Nollywood movie.

Afrobeat singer Oluwatosin Ajibade also known as Mr Eazi, made the list as well.

The artist, who also graced the FORBES AFRICA under-30 list in 2020, spoke about his journey to stardom.

He said, “I began my career with a small cash gift from friends, which enabled me to pay for my first professional- quality video for ‘Skin Tight’.”
