The D.C. Mayor, Muriel E. Bowser, has imposed a citywide curfew as a chaotic scene worsened at the U.S. Capitol building.

This is as Donald Trump and his supporters refuse to concede defeat in the November poll and the electoral college where Joe Biden won the presidential election by a wide margin.

The curfew will be in place from 6 p.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Thursday as Bowser said no one would be allowed out in the city.

Thousands of President Trump’s supporters stormed Washington for rallies on Wednesday in claims that the presidential election was stolen from him. The protest eventually turned violent.

The U.S. Capitol Police were unable to hold back the crowd outside the building, some of whom pushed their way inside, forcing the suspension of the sitting that would have confirmed Joe Biden’s victory.

Lawmakers, including Vice President Mike Pence have been taken to safe shelters by the Police.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump in a tweet urged his supporters to be peaceful, adding that “Please support our Capitol Police and Law Enforcement. They are truly on the side of our country, Stay peaceful!!” he tweeted on Wednesday evening.
