The speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly Gbenga Aribisogan has been impeached.

Aribisogan was removed from his position and suspended indefinitely on Monday after 17 out of the 25 members of the assembly voted in favour of his removal.

Thereafter, the lawmakers elected Olubunmi Adelugba as the new speaker.

The development comes hours after Aribisogan accessed Kayode Fayemi, immediate past governor of the state, of masterminding a plot to impeach him.

According to him, Fayemi was colluding with seven lawmakers of the state assembly to impeach him on Monday.

On November 15, Aribisogan, who represents Ikole constituency 1, was elected as the new speaker of the assembly.

He replaced Funminiyi Afuye, the previous speaker, who died in October after he reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest
