Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has denied reports on social media suggesting that the state’s third coronavirus patient was a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

Mr Akeredolu said on Twitter on Tuesday that the case was a former NYSC member who served in the barracks and was retained after the service year.

“Important clarification on the 3rd #COVID19 case in Ondo. Infected person is not an @officialnyscng corps member as stated online. Individual was an ex corps member that served in the Barracks and was retained,” he wrote.

The governor added: “As it is typical for all cases, all protocol for contact tracing has been activated with those closest to the new case kept in isolation for observation. #TakeResponsibility.”

According to an official statement available through the state Information Commissioner, Mr. Donald Ojogo, the governor will address the people of the state on the issue among other pressing development on the COVID-19 situation in the state by noon.

It would be recalled that the state on Saturday April 11, a day after the second case was confirmed announced the cancellation of earlier scheduled Easter Sunday services permitted to be held in Churches, all in the bid to curb a possible further spread of the pandemic within the state.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Monday night announced the third confirmed COVID-19 case in Ondo as part of 20 new cases.
