Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, has ordered the suspension of the principal of Methodist Girls High School, Ifaki Ekiti for absconding from duty.

In a statement on Monday, the Assistant Director at the Ministry of Education, Kunle Adeniyi, said Fayemi paid the school a visit on Sunday to assess the level of compliance with COVID-19 regulations but the principal was not available to receive the governor.

He said the ministry had sent a notice to the schools on the monitoring exercise, yet the principal was absent from duty.

The exercise was done prior to the resumption of the final year secondary school students in the state, on Monday, in preparation for the upcoming external examinations.

Fayemi was said to have visited other schools for an on-the-spot assessment.

“At Methodist Girls High School, Ifaki-Ekiti, the Principal was not available to receive the governor and his entourage and making the monitoring exercise impossible in the school in spite of the notice from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology,” Adeniyi said.

“Arising from this defiant behaviour, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology has directed that the principal should hand over the management of the school to the most senior vice principal in the school and proceed on suspension with the immediate effect pending the conclusion of appropriate disciplinary action by the Teaching Service Commission.”
