THE Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Musa Bello, has ordered schools in the nation’s capital to close over security threats.

According to a circular cited by our correspondent, primary schools were ordered to conclude exams by Tuesday.

“I’m directed by HOD PSS to inform/direct you to ensure that all examinations are concluded tomorrow,Tuesday, 26/7/2022 due to security threat on FCT,” the circular reads.

Recall that students of Federal Government College (FCG) Kwali have been evacuated from their hostels following an attack at a nearby community.

Parents trooped to the school on Monday morning to evacuate their children from the unity college located at Sheda village, on the ever busy Abuja-Lokoja highway.

The Chairman, Parent Teachers Association (PTA) of the school, Suleiman Idajili, told PREMIUM TIMES that the directive followed an attack on a nearby village on Sunday morning.

He said terrorists attacked the village sharing a fence with the school and abducted a man and his wife. He said the terrorists later left without the wife.

He added that the prompt response of the security personnel in the school protected it from the terrorists.

He said the school management directed parents to evacuate their wards by Monday, but that those near the school opted to pick up their wards on Sunday.

The decision, he said, was approved by officials of the Federal Ministry of Education who he disclosed visited the school earlier on Sunday.

He said: “Officially, we say they should all come tomorrow (Monday). But those that live around want to pick their children today. And many of them came today.”

“It was because of the prompt response of the army, the police and other security personnel in the school compound that they (terrorist) didn’t enter the school compound,” he said.

“So, that was why we had to take that action because we don’t know their next plan.”
