The Federal Government has issued a directive to the West African Examination Council (WAEC) to ensure the capturing of the National Identification Number (NIN) during the registration of candidates.
The government’s directive was made known in an internal office memo, released on Friday and titled “Registration of Candidates for WASSCE (SC) & PC with the National Identification Number (NIN)”.
Signed by Mrs H. O Hassan, SDR, the memo directed all zonal cordinators, branch controllers, and officers in charge of offices to sensitize school proprietors, principals, students and stakeholders on the development.
It was, therefore, emphasized that only candidates with the NIN would be allowed to register for the exam with the Council.
Meanwhile, the head of national office of WAEC Nigeria, Mr Patrick Areghan, had earlier stated that the Council, as as a law-abiding organisation working in public interests, had no option than to key into Nigerian government’s directive for every resident to enrol for NIN.
