FG, Islamic bank partner on agricultural development

The Islamic Development Bank has said it will partner with the Federal Government through special agric programmes to move Nigerians out of poverty.

 

The team leader of IsDB, Mr Javed Khan, said this during the first supervision mission of the implementation of the special agro-industrial processing zone project in Ilorin, Kwara State on Monday.

 

According to him, Nigeria has all it takes to solve poverty challenges confronting the people through agriculture.

 

Javed said that bank would bring its expertise and other logistics to ensure success of the unique model.

 

He explained that Nigeria was the first place among member countries where the project was set for implementation.

 

Javed noted that the project would train farmers on the rudimentary aspect starting from production, processing, to the stage where the produce would be taken to the market.

 

He urged the State Governments where the projects were to be sited to give it the required support to enable it succeed.

 

While reacting, Kwara State Governor ,AbduRahman AbdulRazq, who was represented by the state Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development ,Mallam Abdullateef Alakawa, said the State Government had embarked on different agricultural programmes to improve food production .

 

He said that the State Government would collaborate with Islamic Development Bank and other stakeholders in transforming rural economies into viable and sustainable commercial cities.

 

The project Coordinator, Special Agro-Industrial Processing zone ,Dr Busari Isiaka, said the bank would ensure viability of the project in state where it is implemented.
