The Federal Government says it is contacting the Nigerian Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand over three Nigerians who have been stranded in Suvarnabhumi Airport, Bangkok, for two months.

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) stated this on Wednesday night on Twitter.

The three Nigerians have been trapped at the airport since March due to airport closures occasioned by the coronavirus pandemic.

Thai airport officials say two of the three persons arrived on March 21 on an Emirates flight with the intention to connect to Laos while the third person arrived on March 24 on an Etihad flight with a connection to Myanmar.

But the two countries closed their borders before they could make it in.

Consequently, none of them could travel back to Nigeria owing to the closure of the country’s airspace and airports in late March. They also could not enter Thailand as they were only in transit and did not have visas for Thailand.

The trapped Nigerians, airport authorities added, have tested negative for coronavirus and have been provided with food, drinking water and basic care.
