Five-storey building collapses in Lagos

A five-storey building reportedly collapsed in Government Residential Area in the Apapa area of Lagos State on Sunday.

This is coming barely 24 hours that Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu ordered the demolition of three buildings on Banana Island over infractions.

The building was under construction when it collapsed after a thunder strike.

Officials of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) have since sealed the building.

Police operatives, men of the state fire service, and other emergency responders have since been mobilised to the scene of the incident for rescue operations.

The incident comes barely 10 days after a seven-storey building collapsed in the Banana Island area of the state.

Gbenga Omotoso, commissioner for information and strategy, confirmed that one body was recovered from the rubble of the collapsed building.
