The management of the Federal University, Oye (FUOYE) on Thursday ordered the closure of the institution over the students violent protest on Tuesday.

‎The Public Relations Officer of the University, Mr Godfrey Bakji, told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Oye-Ekiti, that management also sympathised with the parents of the student, Omonofua Joseph, who died during the protest.

He said the management of the institution was shocked when they heard the news of the death of the boy after the protest.

The Public Relations officer said that necessary measures have been taken to send delegates to the parents of the boy.

“It is highly unfortunate that students of this great university can turn themselves to thugs to the extent of attacking the convoy of the wife of the governor of the state, Erelu Bisi Fayemi.

“The management condemned the act and that is why disciplinary actions have been taken against all the students to curb future occurrence.

“The management has also set up a committee to look into the crises that led to the death of the students, whose name was Omonofua Joseph, a student of Biology Education department.

“Necessary security measures would be taken to ensure that such an ugly incident does not repeat itself,” he said.

NAN reports that students were on the street of Oye-Ekiti with their luggage waiting for commercial vehicles to transport them to their various destinations.
