Grammy 2023: Tems makes history, wins first-ever award

Afrobeat singer, Temilade Openiyi, also known as Tems has broken record as the first Nigerian female singer to win a Grammy Award.

The singer made history on Sunday, February 5, 2023, at the 65th Grammy award, where she won the award for the Best Melodic Rap Performance with ‘Wait For U’ song by Drake and Future.

Tems has been in the major spotlight since her feature on Essence by Wizkid. The song won so many awards and nominations including in the 64th Grammy award, which they lost.

She has also recently been nominated for the Golden Globe award with her involvement in the soundtrack of Marvel’s Black Panther’s movie with the song ‘Lift Me Up’ which was sung by global star Rihanna as her comeback project.

The Nigerian star was recently spotted at Beyonce and Jay Z’s Roc Nation pre-Grammy Brunch. She was spotted with Beyonce, Jay Z amongst other international celebrities.

She was also seen taking pictures with Mary J.Blige and DJ Khaled at the Grammys.

With her latest achievement, she has beat Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade and other female stars in the Nigerian music industry.

Singer Yemi Alade has congratulated her after her win. Yemi took to her Twitter where the singer is currently trending. She tagged Tems and tweeted, “Congratulations”.
