Reimagining Hope Residency: Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy partners MADhouse by Tikera Africa

The Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy, in collaboration with MADhouse by Tikera Africa is proud to announce the launch of the Reimagining Hope Residency.

A new wave of artistic expression and cultural storytelling is set to unfold as the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy partners with MADhouse by Tikera Africa to launch the Reimagining Hope Residency. Designed to empower Nigerian creatives, this residency promises to redefine the role of art in addressing societal challenges and celebrating cultural identity.

The program will bring together 20 exceptional artists from across Nigeria for a four-week immersive experience, where visual artists—including painters, sculptors, and digital artists—will engage in mentorship, collaborative workshops, and dynamic studio sessions. The resulting artworks will not only be a testament to Nigeria’s rich heritage. They will also spark conversations on contemporary issues, showcasing select pieces in government buildings, embassies, and cultural institutions locally and internationally.

A Vision for Cultural Renaissance
With two streams planned for the first and second quarters of 2025, the residency is set to foster collaboration and innovation among creatives from diverse backgrounds. The core objectives include:
1. Cross-disciplinary collaboration: Encouraging shared innovation through partnerships between artists.
2. Mentorship from industry leaders: Providing invaluable guidance from cultural icons and established artists.
3. Workshops and co-creation sessions: Exploring new perspectives through design-thinking methodologies.
4. Public exhibitions and international visibility: Ensuring participants’ works reach audiences beyond Nigeria’s borders.

Participants will also access state-of-the-art facilities at MADhouse, shared studio spaces, and cultural excursions designed to deepen their connection to Nigeria’s artistic heritage. The residency underscores the creative sector’s role in nation-building and seeks to strengthen the bridge between artists and stakeholders in the country’s burgeoning creative economy.

Key Stakeholders Speak on the Power of Creative Investment

Barrister Hannatu Musa Musawa, Hon. Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy, emphasized the initiative’s broader impact.

“This partnership highlights the creative industry’s critical role in shaping national identity and addressing pressing social issues. By empowering our creatives, we are investing in Nigeria’s future as a cultural and artistic powerhouse.”

According to Bayo Omoboriowo, Founder of Tikera Africa, “Africa’s emerging creatives can realize their full potential when they know more, do more, and earn more.”

Osarume Akenzua, Director of Innovation and Enterprise at Tikera Africa, echoed this sentiment: “This residency is more than an artistic journey; it is a mission to reimagine how art can build bridges, inspire unity, and catalyze change in the creative economy. At Tikera Africa, we believe in the transformative power of creativity, and this initiative reflects our commitment to nurturing cultural leaders who will reposition Africa globally.”
