Former vice president Mike Pence and his family do not have a permanent place to live since leaving his official residence at the US Naval Observatory in Washington, report says.

Pence was in the spotlight during the last days of Donald Trump’s presidency as he was asked to discredit Joe Biden’s election.

In his farewell address, Pence announced he was moving back to his home state Indiana in the summer, but offered no details on the specifics of where he would move with his wife, Karen Pence.

Official records confirm that Pence, who grew up in Columbus, hasn’t owned a home in Indiana for at least the past eight years.

Political allies reveal that the former second couple were “couch-surfing” at the residences of various Republican politicians in the state.

The Pences are reportedly staying in a cabin that the Indiana governor, Eric Holcomb, uses as a retreat, while two Republicans close to the former vice-president were quoted as saying they spent time at a home belonging to Pence’s brother in Columbus.

It is gathered that the non-disclosure of Pence’s location is part of safety concerns from the recent insurrection at the Capitol as the mob that rampaged through the Capitol on 6 January came for him.

Moreso, this seems to become a trend for public office holders in the US as history tells us how some, who are not individually wealthy face a drastic reality check when they leave the office.

It would be recalled that Joe Biden contemplated putting his only home for sale after his son’s expensive medical treatment but was helped by former President Obama.

“He got up and he said, “Don’t sell that house. Promise me you won’t sell the house,’” Biden told Borger, who had asked Biden to reveal a moment he would remember ahead of Obama’s final State of the Union on Tuesday.

“He said, ‘I’ll give you the money. Whatever you need, I’ll give you the money. Don’t, Joe—promise me. Promise me.’ I said, ‘I don’t think we’re going to have to anyway.’ He said, ‘Promise me.’” he added.

Reports also claim the current president has no home in Washington DC, having worked there for 4 decades. He has to take the train home in Delaware every night.

President Truman was also broke and on the verge of penury after retirement as US president. Truman was one of the first presidents to receive a pension, a sum of $25,000 annually, which helped to keep him afloat. He and his wife were also the first recipients of Medicare after it was signed into law.

The trend cannot be told without recalling Albert Arnold “Al” Gore, Jr, the 45th Vice President of the United States, who served from 1993 to 2001 under President Bill Clinton and became jobless later on, until he formed Current TV which he sold at a profit on January 2, 2013 for $500 million.

  1. They are not there to acquire needless wealth and property. I wonder when Nigerian leaders will become selfless. In Nigeria it is an opportunity to amass wealth as an office holder.
