Ifeanyi Ubah breaks silence after attack; Peter Obi, Andy Uba react

SENATOR Ifeanyi Ubah (YPP-Anambra South) has confirmed the deaths of some of his personal and security aides during the Sunday attack on his convoy.

Ubah’s convoy was attacked around Nkwo Enugwu Ukwu Market axis of Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State on its way to Nnewi his country home on Sunday night.

Gunmen opened fire on the convoy and left many members of the convoy dead including other persons at the scene of the incident.

The senator, who confirmed the incident to newsmen on Monday in Awka, said the assassins killed one Obum Ikechukwu and Goodness Mathias.

Ubah added that some of his security aides from the Police and Department of State Services were also killed.

DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Anambra State Command, confirmed the incident but did not give the figure of the victims.

“The Commissioner of Police, Mr Echeng Echeng, visited the scene and there were blood stains at the place indicative of the fact that the attack was bloody, but to give the number I cannot say anything on that.’’

MEANWHILE, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi,  Monday said “the attack is condemnable and unacceptable.”

The former Anambra State governor also re-emphasised the urgent need for enhanced security of lives and property in the society and demanded the use of all machinery available to the government to promptly punish those who engage in these dastardly acts in accordance with the laws.

The tweet read, “I deeply commiserate with my brother, Senator @Dr_IfeanyiUbah, and extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their loved ones in this ugly incidence.

“The attack is condemnable and unacceptable. I hereby re-emphasise the urgent need for enhanced security of lives and property in society. I have continued to lay emphasis on the urgent need for enhanced security and protection of life and property in our society.

“Those who engage in these dastardly acts should be fished out swiftly using all machinery available to government, and promptly punished in accordance with our laws.

“I enjoin the Federal and State governments to strenuously strive to to curb the menace of insecurity rampaging our Nation.”

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the 2021 Anambra State governorship election, Senator Andy Uba, added,  “I commiserate with my brother and friend, distinguished Senator Ifeanyi Ubah and the families of his aides that lost their lives yesterday in Enugwu Ukwu, Njikoka Local government Area of Anambra State.

“The news came to me as a shock and I sincerely condemn the horrific attack.

“These attacks are uncalled for, and it is alien to Igbo culture to maim and kill humans.

“My thoughts and prayers are with you and the families of the victims. I urge the government to do the needful in bringing total peaceful sanity to our dear Anambra State.

“May the souls of the departed rest in peace and may God heal all those injured.”
