‘Increased cost of cement linkable to #EndSARS protests, COVID-19 pandemic’ – FG

The recent increase in price of cement in the country has been linked by the Federal Government to the nationwide#EndSARS protest, Covid-19 pandemic among other economic challenges faced by manufacturers.

This according to the government impacted negatively on the product leading to increase in price and reduced volume of stock.

This was stated by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Nasir Sani-Gwarzo, in a statement he signed on Wednesday.

Gwarzo noted that the price of bag of cement rose consistently from N2,400 and N2,500 as of September 2020 to an all-time high of N4,000 in December 2020.

He urged the public to desist from panic buying of the product, assuring Nigerians that, the ministry was working on ways to achieve price reduction. He noted that the Ministry has been working assiduously to engage all the relevant stakeholders in the cement manufacturing towards tackling the situation which has lingered .
