INEC assures of credible supplementary polls in Sokoto

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it will conduct a free, fair and credible supplementary poll in Sokoto state.

The National Commissioner presiding over the April 15 polls in the state, Major General Modibbo Alkali rtd made this claim at a stakeholders meeting preparatory to the coming Saturday exercise.

Alkali noted that all parties including their agents must be on track by the rules of the game as the commission was poised to support the advancement of democracy and Democratic processes.

In his words, “We will not waiver our responsibility to doing the needful. We want as much as possible to avoid any confusion to safeguard against issues and misunderstandings. Parties should ensure that only one agent or representative to each PU. We don’t want to experience any loss of life or bloodletting as we witnessed some disruption and disturbance at some PUs in the last exercise.”

Alkali, flanked by the Acting Resident Electoral Commission (REC), Hauwa Aliyu Kangiwa and other top officials of the commission, urged party leaders and stalwarts to talk to and educate their supporters and members to be peaceful for a smooth conduct of the exercise to enable electorate benefit from the dividends of democracy.

According to him, the electoral umpire remains a neutral body while assuring that the security agencies were adequately in synergy to provide needed security throughout the exercise.
