Jealous lover bags seven-year imprisonment over abuse

A 32-year-old man, Onyekachi Agu, who assaulted his ex-girlfriend, Aishat Adefarati and her lover, Mansur Ahmed, with acid, has been sentenced to seven years in prison.

Agu who is also a carpenter was sentenced on Wednesday by a Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja.

Justice Oyindamola Ogala handed the verdict to Agu. He was found guilty of a count of causing grievous bodily harm to two persons in 2020.

The state prosecutor, Uju Uwangaze, during the proceeding, revealed that the defendant had traced the victims to Gangare Hotel, Mile 12, Lagos on July 3, 2020, and had poured acid on them resulting in bodily harm to their bodies.

According to Uwangaze, the offence contravened Section 245 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Justice Ogala found the defendant guilty on the grounds of his confessional statement and sentenced him accordingly.

The Judge said, “The defendant is hereby sentenced to imprisonment of seven years with hard labour and the sentence is to run concurrently.”
