The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Farouq, says Jigawa is ranked number one most hit state by the recent floods, according to an assessment carried out.

The minister disclosed this on Thursday in reaction to claims made by elder statesman and leader of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), Chief Edwin Clark, who urged the Federal Government to act to save flood victims in the Niger Delta and not abandon them.

Speaking to newsmen at the weekly ministerial briefing on Thursday, the minister noted that Bayelsa State is not among the top ten most affected states.

Farouq explained that the assessment was made based on the number of deaths recorded and displaced persons per state, number of injuries, partially damaged, houses totally damaged, farmlands partially a d totally damaged.

Meanwhile, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) had earlier said last month that over 600 people have died and millions displaced by devastating floods that hit more than 20 states in the last few months.
