The Kano and Jigawa State Governments have declared Friday May 14 a work-free day to enable Muslim faithful to continue with the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
Recall that the Federal Government had on Tuesday announced Wednesday and Thursday public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-el-Fitr.
But both state governments have announced a one-day extension.
Kano State Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba, in a statement on Thursday said the decision was in consideration of the fact that Wednesday, May 12 declared by the Federal Government fell within the 30 days of Ramadan period.
According to the statement, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje felicitated with the Muslim Ummah on this auspicious period that calls for sober reflection and sharing of goodwill among adherents.
It also urged people in the state to use the occasion, particularly during Jumu’ah service to pray for peace to continue to reign in the state and the country in general.
Meanwhile, in a statement by Alhaji Isma’il Ibrahim, Public Relations Officer, Office of the State Head of the Civil Service, Alhaji Hussaini Kila, on Thursday, the Jigawa government urged civil servants and the general public to use the period and pray for peace, stability and economic transformation in the state.
“During the occasion, it is expected that all public servants and the entire people of the state will pray to Almighty Allah for continued protection and guidance of our leaders, peace, the economic prosperity of the state and Nigeria at large and be law-abiding citizens.
“Kila also appealed to them to always exhibit good virtues of Ramadan for the progress of the society, as well as reflect and live their lives based on the teachings of Islam and practices of Prophet Muhammad (SAW),” the PRO said.
