Ibadan, May 8, 2019 An Ibadan-based security consultant, Mr James Okpara, has urged security agencies in the country to adopt intelligence-gathering more in their efforts to combat crime.

Okpara made the call on Wednesday in Ibadan while speaking with KaftanPpost on the rampant cases of kidnapping and other security challenges in the country.

He said that effective intelligence-gathering would enhance efforts of security operatives in nabbing kidnappers, their sponsors and curbing activities of other criminals.

Okpara, who is the Director of Lifesaving Securities, particularly decried the spate of kidnapping of innocent Nigerians and the huge ransom being paid to secure their freedom.

According to him, intelligence gathering play vital roles in nabbing criminals in developed countries, and Nigeria as a nation should invest in intelligence-gathering department in respective security outfits.

”The daily report on cases of kidnapping, banditry and other crimes is worrisome and embarrassing to the nation.

”It is high time the security agents fortified their respective intelligence-gathering departments and be efficient in ridding the society of these criminals.

”The public, too, should assist the security operatives by giving useful information that can enhance their job.

”We shouldn’t be blaming security personnel for all these ugly incidents because they are not magicians but rely on information to nab these culprits.

”Let’s us play our roles as patriotic Nigerians and feed security operatives with any useful information that comes our way,” he said.

Okpara also cautioned private security organisations on recruiting people of questionable characters as guards, advising that there should be proper screening before recruiting them.
