Hajia Salamatu Sabo, wife of Kuje Area Council Chairman in FCT, on Friday donated food items to five orphanages in the area as part of efforts to improve the living standard of the inmates.
Sabo, while handing over the items, said that the gesture was to support handlers of the homes.
“The gesture is in line with the Kuje Area Council’s vision and mission for creating a healthy and conducive environment for children to learn and grow.
“There is more joy in giving than receiving; majority of children in the country need this kind of assistance to survive.
“The children have done nothing wrong to find themselves in the situation they are today. I plead with people, who have more than enough, to help them.
“About 70 per cent of children globally, need assistance and majority of them die every year because of hunger and starvation,” she said.
She called on well-meaning Nigerians and corporate bodies to do the needful and help to alleviate the suffering of children in the country.
She also assured the orphanages that their demands would be tackled by the council.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the food items donated included bags of rice, noodles, cartons of milk, spaghetti, cornflakes and cash.
The five orphanages visited are Christ Foundation Widows Outreach, Treasure Home, Al-ansar, Vintage and Divine, and Hand of Hope, all in Kuje.
