Kwara Assembly orders probe into alleged enlogation of tenure of magistrates, area court judges.

The Kwara House of Assembly on Thursday gave two-week ultimatum to its Committee on Ethic’s, Prevail edges and Judiciary, to investigate an alleged elongation of tenure of some Magistrates and Area courts judges in the state.

The Speaker of state House of Assembly, Mr Danladi Yakubu-Salihu, gave the directive after the house had accepted a petition to that effect, read by the House Leader, Mr Abubakar Olawoyin-Magaji.

In the petition written by a non-governmental organisation in llorin, the petitioners alleged that the immediate past administration in the state illegally elongated the tenure of some Magistrates and Area Court Judges

The petitioners added that the immediate past administration recruited more than 100 Magistrates without office accommodation and working tools.

The speaker after the petition was laid by the House Leader directed the House Committee on Public Petitions to investigate all the allegations and report back in two-week time.

Meanwhile, the House has commended Gov. Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq and his Kaduna State counterpart, Malam Nasir el-Rufa’i for their quick response that led to the rescue of seven indigenes of Offa from kidnappers on Kaduna-Abuja highway.

The house made the commendation in its resolution after considering a matter of public importance on the incident raised by Mr Saheed Popoola
(APC-Ojumu/Balogun).

The speaker, while reading the resolution, called on the state government to educate the people who travel during the night to desist and be cautious of dark spots or trouble areas while on a journey.

The house equally commended the efforts of the Offa Descendants Union and the military for effort on the rescue mission of the seven abductees.
