The Nigeria Medical Association NMA Ondo State chapter has called on the state government to make the work environment conducive and provide the required and necessary equipment for the betterment of all.

The call was made on Thursday in Akure, the Ondo State capital, during the association annual week-long event to celebrate the doctors nationwide.

In her address, the state Chairman of the association, Dr Mrs Stella Adegbehingbe, said the exodus of medical personnel from the state is far becoming alarming and that the needful should be done.

“The year has been filled with challenges and crises in the heath sector in the state over the percentage payment of salaries, which has resulted to exodus of health personnel,” she said.

According to her, efforts must be intensified on the issue of security so as to have a balanced mind before, during, and after working hours.

Adegbehingbe mentioned that the state government should consider massive employment of health personnel for secondary and tertiary institutions across the state.

Meanwhile, the association had earlier visited the orphanage home along the Federal Housing Estate, Shagari where food items, toiletries, and other materials were donated.

The medical personnel also visited the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital, Ondo, where the 250 bedded-facility, being erected by the state government, was commended.

The association advised the state government on the need to increase the level of awareness and orientation among residents of the state towards active community participation in hygienic processes and the prevention of disease outbreak, most especially, the noticeable, uncleared, and growing refuse dumps along major streets and roads.

The Doctors, therefore, reiterated that government should take the issue of health personnel seriously by paying them the hazards allowance without any delay.
