Man, 35, docked for shredding lady’s clothe

A 35-year-old man, Tonye Mike, who allegedly assaulted a woman by shredding her clothe to pieces during a quarrel, on Thursday, appeared in an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.


Mike is standing trial for assault. He, however, pleaded not guilty.


The prosecutor, Insp. Maria Dauda, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on May 7, at 9.00a.m at Exclusive Mansion Hotel on Ayilara Street, Ojuelegba, Lagos State.


Dauda alleged that the defendant assaulted the complainant, Mrs Omowunmi Abegunde, by shredding her clothe worth N12,000.


He added that the defendant punched Abegunde severally, in contravention of the provisions of Sections 172 and 351 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.


The Magistrate, Mrs Monisola Ayinde, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N10,000 with two sureties each in like sum.


She adjourned the case until May 14 for mention.
