Man appears in court for cheating businesswoman of N2.7m

Ilorin, May 8, 2019 (NAN) A 51-year-old man, Waheed Babatunde,who allegedly conspired with his wife and cheated a businesswoman of N2.7 million, on Wednesday appeared in an Ilorin Magistrates’ Court.


The police charged Babatunde with criminal conspiracy, breech of trust and cheating.


The Prosecution Counsel, Insp. Al-Hassan Jubril informed the court that Babatunde and his wife, Kudirat Shittu, who is at large, deceived Mulikat Yakub into lending them N2.7 million which they promised to pay back as soon as possible.


Jubril said that after collecting the money in 2015, the defendant and his wife,refused to pay the money back.


He said that the alleged offence contravened the provisions of sections 97, 312 and 322 of the Penal Code Law.


He prayed the court to remand the accused person in prison, to enable the police arrest his wife, who is at large.


After the charge was read to him, the defendant pleaded not guilty.


Magistrate, Mrs. Ibijoke Olawoyin, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of 100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.


She adjourned the case until May 24 for further mention.
