Several persons have been trapped following multiple-tanker accidents which occurred at SIFAX, inward Costain facility, in Ijora area of Lagos State, on Thursday night.

Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the incident in a statement.

“Further investigations revealed that one of the tankers was ascending the bridge when it rolled back onto the other tanker and other vehicles. The collision impact resulted in the fire”, said Osanyintolu.

While number of people trapped in the inferno could not be ascertained, Oke-Osanyintolu said preliminary assessments of the incident indicated the multiple accidents involved three container laden trucks, two tankers laden with unknown but highly inflammable contents, one tipper truck laden with gravel, one flatbed truck and three cars.

“A total of four fire trucks are on ground alongside LASTMA, LASEMA and Nigeria Police officials”, the statement added.
